ARTIST STATEMENT

The Psy Guy Project is a community-based print initiative that began in 2019 as a playful way to share my work beyond traditional exhibition spaces. Each year, I create a new “Psy Guy” print inspired by Pokémon characters, which are produced in limited quantities and distributed freely to friends, peers, and members of creative communities.

While the project began as a lighthearted form of self-promotion, it has evolved into an ongoing practice centered on accessibility, connection, and generosity. By removing cost as a barrier, the Psy Guy Project reframes printmaking as a social exchange rather than a commodity, allowing the work to circulate through everyday interactions.

Each volume reflects a shift in my artistic process and materials, moving from digitally constructed prints to hand-painted originals that are later reproduced and distributed.

At its core, the Psy Guy Project treats printmaking as a tool for community-building. Community members are also able to support the project directly, with purchases going back into future print runs and making it possible for new Psy Guy prints to continue being distributed for free.
