ARTIST STATEMENT

A Focus on Memory centers on the stories my grandfather returns to most often, shared through the objects he has chosen to keep close. Each portrait depicts him holding or presenting a personal artifact, items worn by time and layered with meaning. Accompanying handwritten text records his own words, preserving not only the stories themselves but the cadence and intimacy of his voice. Rather than documenting memory as a fixed record, the work considers how memory is carried, repeated, and reshaped through acts of sharing.
